Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh: Here’s what I’ve been working on in the State Senate

Opinion Editorial

It is an honor to serve as your representative in the California State Senate. I do not take this responsibility lightly. Public service is about listening first, then leading with integrity, humility, and vision. My role is to be a voice for you, have an open door for all, and to ensure government remains accountable to the people it serves.

In times like these, transparency and connection matter more than ever. That is why I’ve made it a top priority to meet with residents across our district. Since the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, I’ve hosted over 80 town halls. These are not just routine events. They are meaningful opportunities to hear directly from you. They are where tough questions are asked, real conversations happen, and where trust is built between elected officials and the communities we represent.

Our district is one of the largest in the state by geography, but that has never been a reason to step back from engagement. It has been a reason to lean in even more. From the high desert to the Coachella Valley, from mountain towns to urban neighborhoods, every community deserves to be heard. Town halls are where I can hear directly from you and I encourage you to join me at a town hall near you.

This past year, I introduced 16 bills, five of which were signed into law. These include legislation that protects victims of stalking by strengthening legal definitions, improves access to skilled nursing facility information for Medi-Cal recipients, ensures students with special healthcare needs do not lose critical support at school, provides fairer processes for construction payments on private projects, and supports long-term courthouse infrastructure in San Bernardino County.

In addition to legislative efforts, I’ve helped secure important funding for our region. This includes 10 million dollars for California Indian Nations College in Palm Desert, 4 million dollars for oversight in long-term care facilities to protect our seniors, and 500 thousand dollars to improve the structural integrity of a local fertility clinic serving families across the Inland Empire.

I have also coauthored bipartisan legislation to prohibit the use of nondisclosure agreements that shield legislative spending from the public. Californians deserve to know how their money is used and who is making decisions on their behalf. Open government is good government.

In 2025, I attended more than 400 community meetings and events and my office worked with constituents on over 600 cases involving state agencies and services. These interactions are the heart of my work. Listening to people’s lived experiences gives me the insight I need to advocate effectively and responsibly.

Public service is about commitment. I remain focused on solutions that reflect the needs and values of the people I represent.

If you would like to stay connected with my work, I invite you to visit my website at sr19.senate.ca.gov and follow my social media pages (@SenOchoaBogh) where you can sign up for my newsletter and find more information about legislation and local events. Your input matters. Your voice matters. And I welcome your continued partnership.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. It is an honor to serve you and to work alongside you in building a stronger future for the 19th Senate District.
