Senator Ochoa Bogh Honors California Taxpayers Association on Its 100th Anniversary

Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa) today recognized the California Taxpayers Association (CalTax) on the floor of the California State Senate in celebration of the organization’s 100th anniversary of advocating for taxpayers and promoting government accountability throughout California.

“The California Taxpayers Association has spent the last 100 years serving as a trusted voice for taxpayers across our state,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “Their work has helped promote transparency in government, accountability in public spending, and fairness in tax policy. As Californians continue to face affordability challenges, organizations like CalTax play an important role in ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and efficiently.”

Founded in 1926 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, CalTax was established with the mission of protecting taxpayers from unnecessary taxes while supporting efficient and effective government. Over the past century, the organization has conducted extensive research on taxation and government spending, provided expert policy analysis to lawmakers and state agencies, and advocated for reforms that improve tax administration and transparency.

Among its many accomplishments, CalTax helped advance early legislation requiring counties to prepare formal budgets, increasing transparency and accountability in local government finances. The organization has also worked closely with governors, legislators, county assessors, and tax agencies, while providing education and analysis on tax-related ballot measures and public policy issues.

Joining Senator Ochoa Bogh on the Senate floor were CalTax President Robert Gutierrez and CalTax Board Chair John Cmelak, who were recognized for the organization’s century-long commitment to sound tax policy, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.

"The California Taxpayers Association was formed to give taxpayers a voice and to conduct research to keep elected officials, voters, and the tax agencies informed whenever tax proposals are considered," CalTax President Robert Gutierrez said. "We are honored to receive this resolution from Senator Ochoa Bogh and the coauthors recognizing our first 100 years of work and showing their support for taxpayers. We look forward to continuing to work with them to fight for a fair, affordable tax system."

In recognition of its centennial milestone, Senator Ochoa Bogh authored a Senate resolution, joined by several Senate colleagues, commending CalTax for its outstanding contributions to the people of California and promoting sound public policy.
