Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R–Yucaipa) has introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 132, which recognizes March 22, 2026, as California STEAM Robotics Day.
The resolution highlights the growing importance of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education in preparing students for future careers and strengthening California’s workforce.
“Hands-on STEAM education opens doors for students and sparks curiosity about the world around them,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “Programs like robotics give young people the opportunity to build, problem-solve, and imagine new possibilities for their future. Recognizing California STEAM Robotics Day celebrates the teachers, mentors, and students who are helping prepare the next generation of innovators.”
Research shows that many students who pursue careers in STEAM fields make that decision during middle school or high school, demonstrating the importance of early exposure to these subjects.
STEAM programs provide students with hands-on learning opportunities such as robotics projects, engineering challenges, and computer programming. Studies show these programs improve critical thinking skills, increase attendance, and boost academic performance.
SCR 132 aims to raise awareness of these programs and highlight the role they play in developing the next generation of innovators, engineers, and technology leaders.
During the presentation of SC 132, Senator Ochoa Bogh welcomed Ethan Nguyen, a senior at Poway High School and president of the school's robotics competition team, to the Capitol.
Initially unmotivated, Ethan found direction and inspiration through joining his school’s robotics team, where he gained hands-on skills, industry connections, and a passion for electrical engineering. His team, Spyder 1622, is part of FIRST Robotics, which includes 2,697 teams and over 35,000 California students learning vital STEM skills.
She also recognized Garner Holt Productions for their visionary work in animatronics and artistry, and for their dedication to educating and inspiring students nationwide.
“STEAM education gives students hands-on opportunities to build skills and confidence through real-world learning,” said Garner Holt, President of Garner Holt Productions. “I appreciate Senator Ochoa Bogh for highlighting the importance of these programs and helping inspire the next generation of innovators.”
Holt Education Through Imagination (ETI) is a national leader in hands-on STEAM education, delivering innovative learning experiences for students from K–12 through adult education. Inspired by the legacy of Garner Holt, ETI blends creativity, technology, and real-world application to prepare learners for in-demand careers. Through immersive Ani-Maker Spaces and career exploration labs, the organization offers standards-aligned programs in robotics, engineering, fabrication, and design, helping students build critical thinking skills and confidence through project-based learning.
Headquartered in California’s Inland Empire, ETI partners with school districts, libraries, museums, and community organizations nationwide to expand access to high-quality, inclusive education. With a strong focus on workforce readiness, bilingual learning, and professional development, ETI designs programs that meet diverse learners where they are. By aligning education with industry needs, the organization is helping close skills gaps and create meaningful pathways to economic mobility across communities.
