Today, Senator Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa) presented Senate Resolution 15 (SR 15) on the Senate Floor, officially proclaiming February 2025 as 2-1-1 Month and February 11, 2025, as 2-1-1 Day in California. The resolution highlights the essential role of 2-1-1 services in connecting Californians to critical health and human services, disaster response resources, and community assistance programs.
“Every day, thousands of Californians rely on 2-1-1, a free and confidential information and referral service that operates 24/7 to support people of all income levels, languages, and backgrounds,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “Whether it’s during times of personal crisis, natural disasters, or community-wide emergencies, 2-1-1 specialists provide vital assistance by identifying and addressing the root causes of a caller’s needs.”
Since its inception in 2006, 2-1-1 call specialists have handled over 2 million service requests, providing life-saving information and referrals. In 2022 alone, 2-1-1 centers processed more than 2.1 million referrals, demonstrating their growing importance in the lives of Californians. Most recently, during the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, 2-1-1 providers played a crucial role in guiding residents to evacuation routes, housing resources, and recovery aid.
In honor of this resolution, Senator Ochoa Bogh welcomed to the Senate key representatives of the 2-1-1 network, including:
- Kimberly Starrs, President & CEO of Inland SoCal United Way and 2-1-1
- Dr. Danielle Kilchenstein, Executive Director of Government Relations, Inland SoCal United Way and 2-1-1
- Lindsay Gordon, Board Member, 2-1-1 California
“These women represent the many dedicated professionals and volunteers working tirelessly to ensure that Californians in need receive timely and accurate information,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “Their commitment to 2-1-1 services helps create a stronger, more resilient California.”
“Access to 211 services is essential for all communities, connecting families to critical support like emergency rental assistance and community resources,” said Kimberly Starrs, President and CEO of Inland SoCal United Way and 2-1-1. “Our trained specialists assess each client’s situation and link them to comprehensive solutions. With continued state support, 211 will expand its reach, ensuring more Californians receive the help they need when they need it.”
SR 15 underscores the growing reliance on 2-1-1 services and the need for greater awareness and support for this program. By recognizing 2-1-1 Month and 2-1-1 Day, the resolution urges public officials, community leaders, and all Californians to learn more about the critical services offered by 2-1-1 providers and advocate for their continued success.
