Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh (R-Yucaipa) is calling for a full investigation into the recent release of private and personal information of individual firearm owners in California including information regarding California Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit holders as well as data regarding the Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certificate Safety, and Gun Violence Restraining Order.
“I am deeply concerned at the mishandling of such private information by the DOJ,” said Senator Ochoa Bogh. “The unlawful release of personal information for hundreds of thousands of Californians was publicized and accessible for a significant period of time. Confidential personal identifying information for many individuals and their families that may be placed in physical danger due to this release, include but not limited to victims of domestic violence or criminal threats, judges, and law enforcement officers, potentially putting the lives and safety of these law-abiding citizens in jeopardy. This data was released in violation of state law, and accountability should be taken immediately regarding this negligence. I ask for a detailed and thorough investigation of the DOJ to determine the cause and reason this information was publicly released and, if the release was intentional, I ask for information regarding the Attorney General’s plans on pursuing charges or other penalties.”
